Dieter Limbourg was born in Oudenaarde (Belgium) in 1971. He studied piano, harmony, clarinet, flute and saxophone at the Ronse Music Academy, where he obtained the Government medal for saxophone in 1989.
In 1993 he got a First Prize plus Teacher Training Certificate for saxophone at the Gent Royal Conservatoire. From 1993 to 1996 Dieter studied both the flute and saxophone at the Hilversum Conservatoire (NL), where he was awarded the Docerend Musicus Jazz/LM saxophone teaching certificate.
Dieter took lessons with Belgian saxophonist Etienne Verschueren and attended workshops with American jazz saxophonists Jim Snidero and John Ruocco. He has toured Europe with American Rhythm & Blues legend Rufus Thomas (France, UK, The Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland and Spain).
He was part of Tars Lootens’ quartet, alongside Roman Korolic (bass) and Jan De Haas (drums), and played the opening concert of the 1996 Tour de France in Shirley Bassey’s orchestra, as well as at several June 1999 concerts (Germany, The Netherlands and Belgium).
Between May 1996 and August 1997 he was the permanent saxophonist of Belgian R&B group Blue Blot (with whom he played the support act to Tina Turner eight times). He is a member of the High Voltage Sextet, a hard-bop formation with Lode Mertens (trombone), Nico Schepers (trumpet), Bart Vancaenegem (piano), Peter Verhaeghen (double bass) and Lieven Venken (drums), and from 1996 to 2000 he was a member of Tony Bauwens’ quartet and sextet.
The VRT (Flemish Radio and Television Broadcasting Company) selected Dieter to represent Belgium at the 2001 EBU big band (European Broadcasting Union) in Amsterdam.
He works as a studio musician (recording with no less than Claude Nougaro, Maurane, Jo Lemaire, Johan Verminnen, Volumia, Janez Dedt, Neeka, Natalia, Kommil Foo, Clouseau, Bart Peeters, ... ). He plays the saxophone in his own quartet/quintet and has freelanced with the likes of Tony Bauwens, Charles Marc Godfroid, Phil Abraham, Richard Rousselet, Jean Warland, Félix Simtaine , Jan De Haas, Peter Hens, Arnoud Gerritse, Michel Herr, Bruno Castellucci, Toots Thielemans, Jazz Orchestra of the Boeykens, Clouseau, Kommil Foo, Saxkartel, Philippe Jordens...
